What is FileBazaar?
A Peer-2-Peer file sharing web application that works over the WebRTC protocol (based on the Jingle protocol). FileBazaar also allows for real-time sharing of messages and files in a chat layout.
How does FileBazaar work?
FileBazaar works by connecting 2 web browsers, or peers, together. Once connected both users have a shared file manager they can use to send and download files to and from one another. In addition to the traditional file manager layout there is also a chat format users can use to send text between each other as well as files.
What makes FileBazaar different?
Unlike FTP/SFTP, FileBazaar uses what's called WebRTC: a protocol built into every modern browser that utilizes signaling and STUN/TURN servers to establish a direct connection between 2 browsers (see technical write up). Typically, WebRTC is used for video conferencing and calling over the internet. But, FileBazaar leverages the data channel to send arbitrary data such as a file. Essentially, it's almost entirely decentralized file sharing. As close as you're going to get anyway. The best part? It costs no additional money. You just need an internet connection and a web browser.
